She's also well known for her stage work and in particular for her leading role as Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway production Caroline or Change (2004) in which she won she received the Tony Award Best Musical Featured Performance went to her. and Beneatha Youther in the Broadway revival A Raisin in the Sun (2015) in which she was awarded she received the Tony Award Best Play Featured Performance nominated her.
